The Freedom to be Unhealthy

Here is the real cost of “freedom” in the US today: The Congressional Budget Office has just published its estimate of what Trumpcare will really cost: 24 million more people without health insurance by 2026, for a total of 52 million uninsured–15% of the projected population by that time. Trump said on January 15 he believed in “insurance for everybody.” He added: “There was a philosophy in some circles that if you can’t pay for it, you don’t get it. That’s not going to happen with us.” But here’s what Paul Ryan said the other day: “’CBO will say, ‘Well, gosh, not as many people will get coverage. You know why? Because this isn’t a government mandate. “It’s up to people. People are going to do what they want to do with their lives because we believe in individual freedom in this country.”
I don’t think FDR had freedom from health care in mind when he spoke about the four freedoms.
